THE OPPORTUNITY

Job Title: Vice President, Sales and Marketing

Reports to: President and CEO

Direct Reports: 6

Location: Calgary, AB

 

MANDATE

The successful candidate will evolve the company’s sales and marketing structure, culture and processes toward profitable and sustained growth over the next three years. The VP, Marketing and Sales will report directly to the CEO and will be an influential member of the leadership team. The VP, Sales and Marketing is responsible for providing leadership and direction to the North American sales team, successfully executing a focused, differentiated, and innovative business development strategy.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

The position will include the following responsibilities:

Leadership

  • Effectively lead, coach, mentor and grow a geographically dispersed sales team, while also ensuring adherence to organizational principles and best practices
  • As a member of the senior leadership team, drive the strategic direction of the sales and marketing function through the establishment, communication and maintenance of KPIs, including the generation of new business, existing account development, regaining lost business and maintaining gross margin
  • Establish effective and collaborative working relationships with key internal stakeholder groups
  • Support a corporate culture that encompasses the highest ethical standards that aligns with the corporation’s core vision and values

Strategic & Business Planning

  • Develop a three-year targeted sales plan that covers geographic locations, industries and companies to grow sales in alignment with the organization’s strategic plan
  • Contribute to the development of the annual operating plan and lead the sales team to meet and exceed targets including sales, margin, service levels and safety
  • Lead the recruitment of talent, building a sales team to support the organizations strategic plan

Business Development

  • Working with the leadership team to support the development of new market initiatives and business opportunities based on the company’s growth strategy
  • In conjunction with the strategic plan, establish, monitor and meet annual sales targets
  • Manage the business development process and build strategic alliances with operations to ensure the sales funnel is aligned with the business objectives
  • Establish and maintain strategic relations with customers, partners, and other stakeholders
  • Provide leadership in the development of key accounts and marketing activities
  • Define and oversee the evolution and effective use of the CRM system

 

OPPORTUNITIES, CHALLENGES AND ATTRACTIONS

  • Client facing leadership role within a fast paced and challenging industry
  • Autonomous role with significant responsibility for driving sales growth in highly entrepreneurial environment
  • Oversight of a geographically dispersed sales team (North America) and indirect sales channels (Worldwide)

 

FIRST YEAR DELIVERABLES / MEASURES OF SUCCESS

Success in the first year will be determined by the candidate’s ability to:

  • Create and successfully launch a three-year sales plan that results in double-digit growth in orders and gross margin
  • Evolve current sales and marketing team structure and address skills and talent gaps
  • Develop, support and hold accountable all indirect sales channels (reps and distributors)
  • Establish a highly effective order capture and accurate forecasting process
  • As member of the leadership team, effectively liaise with all company stakeholders

 

CANDIDATE PROFILE

The successful candidate will have the following:

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Chemistry
  • The completion of an MBA would be considered an asset

Experience

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in multi-channel industrial process sales, preferably with online analyzers
  • Experience recruiting and managing indirect sales channels in different geographies
  • Industrial process instrumentation and application knowledge
  • The evolution and management of a CRM is necessary for this role
  • Highly successful in an organization that rewards an entrepreneurial drive
