Our client is in the business of better health , in virtually every aspect of healthcare. They carry more than 35,000 products in 17 distribution centers and ultimately provide distribution to 6,300 retail pharmacies, 1,350 hospitals, long-term care centers, clinics and institutions all over Canada. Manufacturers, healthcare providers and patients count on them for a full range of services that contribute to the quality and safety of care for all.
This position reports to the Senior Vice President Human Resources and Public Affairs and will be directly responsible for Corporate Communications and Government Affairs from both a strategic and a tactical perspective. The Vice President will have considerable interaction with the company’s executive leadership team in terms of helping craft coherent strategies that will add value to their specific businesses. This role will also provide guidance and oversight for all activities with external service providers, as well as act as a direct liaison with key industry associations and decision makers at various levels of government.
The ideal candidate will be fluently bilingual and possess an appropriate educational background. While we seek a generalist in Public Affairs with a solid track record in all facets of Corporate Communications, it will be essential that candidates possess in-depth knowledge of Government Affairs within the context of a company operating in a regulated environment and on a national scale. This experience may have been gained within various segments of healthcare, although there is openness to also considering other industry segments. Candidates must possess an ability to navigate within complex organizations with multiple stakeholders and within an industry recognized for rapid change. Regardless of the industry segment, candidates must demonstrate an ability to develop networks and influence decision makers at all levels.
Candidates must also possess outstanding leadership skills. In addition to managing a team of 15 professionals as well as external service providers, the VP Public Affairs must possess solid credibility, above average communication skills, good listening skills as well as the ability to work with vastly different constituencies and interest groups and to demonstrate a leadership style predicated on influencing skills.
This individual must combine the right blend of strategic skills with the rigor and process driven approach required for successful tactical implementation within this fast-paced company. Furthermore, candidates must demonstrate solid business skills and financial acumen as the Public Affairs group conducts financial analysis and financial modeling as to the cost and value generated by specific initiatives. While this position requires a seasoned professional in Public Affairs, the candidate must demonstrate a business orientation and a track record of providing added value through the strategic positioning of Public Affairs.
