Optimum Talent is pleased to be partnering with Georgian Bay General Hospital (GBGH) in their search for a new Vice President – Patient Services & Chief Nursing Executive.  Located in Ontario’s historic Huronia Region on the shores of beautiful Georgian Bay, GBGH is just 90 minutes north of Toronto.  This 113 bed hospital presently has two sites located in the municipalities of Midland and Penetanguishene. GBGH was established in 2008 following the voluntary integration of Huronia District Hospital and Penetanguishene General Hospital with a long history of providing medical services to the community dating back to the early 1900’s.

As part of this progressive and growing community hospital, the Vice President – Patient Services & Chief Nursing Executive will be instrumental in leading the clinical portfolio to fulfil the strategy directions of GBGH, building and maintaining local and regional partnerships, leading patient-centred care and family presence.

The Vice President of Patient Care Services & Chief Nursing Executive is a member of the Executive Team and has overall responsibility for patient services in Emergency, Medical, Surgical and Obstetrical Inpatient Units, Rehabilitation, Complex Continuing Care, Palliative Care, Out-patient Services, Ambulatory Care, Dialysis, Operating Room, the Intensive Care Unit, Diagnostic Services – Laboratory and Imaging, and Patient Flow. Additional responsibilities as the Chief Nursing Executive include ensuring quality of professional practice, education and development, and acting as the executive lead for the Board Quality Committee.

The position provides leadership and direction to the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of patient care services and is accountable for the provision of expert and compassionate care consistent with the strategic plan, values and mission of Georgian Bay General Hospital.

The position expands on existing clinical service relationships and partnerships with other providers and community members in the North Simcoe region.  The position inspires teams, drives strategic directions and creates energy and enthusiasm for progressive change;  acts as an advocate for the very best clinical practice while establishing a vision which contributes to the standards of excellence in patient care.

As a member of the Executive team, the position contributes to corporate policy development, setting strategic direction for the organization and short and long term planning.


Key Accountabilities

  • Provides leadership in Patient Care Delivery System by:
  • Using clinical knowledge and leadership to promote high quality, patient-focused care
  • Establishing the scope and direction of patient services consistent with the strategic directions of the Hospital
  • Acting as change agent and advocate
  • Ensuring the maintenance and ongoing development of the system and processes
  • Ensuring the maintenance and ongoing development of clinical policies and procedures
  • Ensuring the development and monitoring of overall standards of practice for professional staff consistent with best practice and professional standards (e.g. College of Nurses)
  • Ensuring staff scheduling is consistent with overall patient care needs while balancing resources



The Vice President of Patient Care Services & Chief Nursing Executive will have a Masters’ degree in Nursing, Health Care Administration or related discipline and a current certificate of competence from the College of Nurses.  The successful candidate will also have a minimum of 10 years of progressive senior leadership/management experience with a strong working understanding of all clinical services in a medium-sized community hospital.
