Job Title: Vice President, Operations and Engineering

Reports to: President

Direct Reports: 2 plus an indirect team of 14

Location: Hamilton, ON



The Vice President of Operations & Engineering for FELLFAB Limited is responsible for providing key leadership, direction, organization, and management to the staff, projects, activities, and proceedings at the Hamilton location. As part of the senior leadership team, The VP will ensure profitability, sustainability, and adherence to statutory and regulatory requirements while also enabling a culture that will be committed to optimizing processes and ensuring operational excellence leading to the timely delivery of customer orders and the attainment of company goals.



Administration of Company Operational Objectives

To optimize all aspects of the company to maximize return while ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements

  • Help develop a yearly business plan and budget for the company
  • Recommend and manager a capital budget
  • Provide quarterly reviews and forecasts on site performance
  • Review monthly results and coordinate improvement activities with SLT peers
  • Identify, recommend, and implement continuous improvement opportunities in all areas
  • Regularly visit key stakeholders and customers
  • Support and provide a leadership example of the company values

Participate on the Senior Leadership Team

To profitably grow the group of companies in a sustainable manner           

  • Participate in SLT planning sessions
  • Research opportunities and present relevant business cases to the SLT
  • Support the approved business plan

Liaise between departments and peer SLT staff

To ensure projects and plans move forward smoothly and on time  

  • Attend management meetings to discuss issues in various departments and to voice opinions, concerns, and solutions
  • Initiate, plan and facilitate monthly meetings to discuss operational and staff issues and status of daily work
  • Review efficiency and quality results on an ongoing basis
  • Work with program management teams to remove departmental roadblocks
  • Attend contract bid and award meetings to provide input as necessary
  • Support training of other department personnel
  • Support recurring audits and funding activities as required, such as FAA, ISO9001/AS9100
  • Support funding activities such as IRAP (Industrial Research Assistance Program), SR&ED(Scientific Research & Experimental Development), or similar
  • Have an intimate understanding all operational issues and work closely with all functional leads in Sales/Marketing, Engineering, Operations, Purchasing and Supply Chain

Lead Operations

To Supply customer requirements at least cost while meeting all government regulations

  • Ensure manufacturing is staffed to meet production schedule at least cost
  • Ensure materials and deliveries are provided at least cost to meet production schedule with minimal inventories
  • Ensure business tools and processes are in place and implemented
  • Ensure engineering support for manufacturing and the company technical requirements are met

Manage sustaining engineering teams 

Oversee engineering

  • Prepare annual engineering budget, including department expenses and capital equipment
  • Prepare annual departmental objectives and review for approval with President
  • Manage SolidWorks and EPDM systems company wide
  • Update and maintain susENG (sustainable engineering) forms and procedures in areas of BOM structure, Cost Estimating, Master Part List, CAD Drawings, Patterns and Markers, and the interpretation of specifications, standards and procedures
  • Provide Technical expertise as required
  • Oversee that susENG KPI Performance Charts are updated and maintained
  • Conduct Training Needs Analysis and Critical Task Backup
  • Conduct internal training sessions with Team members and identify training gaps
  • Recommend and justify training development needs to the President

Health and Safety      

Ensure that all employees are working to health and safety regulations to reduce accidents and injuries, and to improve overall facility safety.       

  • Ensure that all employees comply with OSHA and OHSA Standards
  • Support Health and Safety initiatives and ensure proper training is given to reduce accident incident severity rates
  • Ensure all managers are escalating and properly reporting all safety infractions and that the plant is secure at all times



  • S./B.A. in Science, Engineering, or equivalent Education and Experience
  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration or equivalent Education and Experience
  • 10 years’ experience in manufacturing or engineering, preferably within textile or aviation industry
  • Proven P&L experience coupled with strong leadership and influencing skills
  • A proven ability to set pace and direction and create a following through leading by example
  • Proven project management experience along with a sound pedigree working within short run production settings, requiring frequent changeovers and optimizing productivity outputs
  • Good critical thinking skills. A track record of taking environments from inherited to better states
  • A proven pedigree in working with preventative maintenance protocols and ensuring optimal levels of equipment uptime
  • Good customer engagement skills. A willingness to support senior management in
  • Knowledge of ERP and manufacturing planning systems including KANBAN
  • Knowledge of LEAN concepts and systems and all associated activities that support the successful engagement of the practice among associates and peers
