Vice President, Finances

Opportunity

The position of Vice President, Finances is a critical role within Bouclair and is a key contributor to a high performing, productive and collaborative team. The ideal candidate must have an entrepreneurial mindset supported by a passion for inspiring and developing others to achieve success and profitable growth.

 

The future Vice President, Finances will support the CEO with strategic direction and financial expertise: member of the leadership team, the person will work on strategic planning, execution of strategy, and financial and operational objectives. He/she will ensure the evaluation and implementation, as needed, of efficient systems (e.g., accounting, billing, ERP, etc.) that allow the organization to provide important information to support strategic and operational decisions. The future incumbent will practice motivational leadership to implement or enhance procedures that will improve the efficiency and accuracy of Bouclair’s financial results and the quality of the accounting processes in a fast-growth mode.

 

Challenges

Among the challenges offered by the position, the need to contribute to formalizing a strategic thinking process with and for the CEO and influence the management team in developing a systemic vision of the company will be key. Given the strong growth triggered by the e-commerce business, the new Vice President, Finances will also contribute to put in place a growth strategy and a Master Business Plan.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Provide direction and financial expertise to the CEO and management team.
  • Quickly acquire a solid understanding of the company and the different markets and distribution channels in which it operates throughout Canada.
  • Ensure profitable growth of the company through effective management of the organization’s financial assets and information resources.
  • Support the Bouclair’s management team, as well as internal and external players as a competent financial leader.
  • Work with the company’s external real estate consultant and help shape and evaluate the right deals.
  • Head all administration issues such as contract review and negotiation and work, when necessary, with outside legal counsel.
  • Maintain and enhance banking and shareholder relationships.
  • Attend all board meetings as an advisor, prepare board documentation along with the CEO and present financials.
  • Evaluate the financial processes in place, propose and implement a strong financial function by reviewing roles and responsibilities (as needed), and by deploying efficient processes and procedures.
  • Develop and manage a team responsible for the day-to-day management of financial accounting and reporting.
  • Foster close communication with their team and ensure that employees are fully motivated to achieve corporate goals.
  • Responsible for financial risk management, ensuring that all business risks are identified, monitored and mitigated accordingly.
  • Ensure the ongoing maintenance of the accounting system which systematically and accurately records and reports all financial transactions in accordance with all legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage the implementation and/or upgrade of new accounting tools such an Enterprise Resource Planning systems (ERP), in partnership with business units and/or functions.

 

Ideal Profile

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Finance and/or Accounting as well as a CPA chartered professional accountant designation;
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in a similar role with a level of complexity in audit, finance, strategic planning, value creation other related expertise;
  • Substantial experience in an organization with revenues between $300M and $600M;
  • Worked within an enterprise serving primarily the Canadian market (important asset);
  • Strong track record in team management and team development and the ability to roll up their sleeves and get involved with their team in day-to-day operations (“hands-on” approach);
  • Expertise in variance analysis vs budget for sales / costs / administrative expenses;
  • Knowledge experience in the retail industry an important asset;
  • Demonstrated achievements to have integrated projects in accounting systems, such as an Enterprise Resource Planning system (ERP), invoicing management systems, and sales taxes outside Canada;
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a strong business acumen;
  • Analytical and operational mind, able to review and optimize existing tools and processes with the support of their teams;
  • Thrives in a rapid-growth organic and nimble environment;
  • Autonomous person with an “Agile Mindset” who stands out for their innovate, dynamic, and creative spirit;
  • Humble, respectful and unifier, excellent communicator, team player, eager to understand the business as well as the stakes of the owner;
  • Mastery in the use of financial management software (an asset) as well as proficiency in Word, Excel, etc.;
  • Perfect command of English and French, both spoken and written.
