Job Title: Vice President, Finance

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

Location: Calgary



Working closely with the CEO, Board, stakeholders and members of the organization the VP, Finance is the senior most finance and accounting position in the organization and will be a key contributor to the organizations business planning and execution strategy.  This is a highly visible role with significant CEO, Board and industry interaction.  The VP Finance requires a multi-disciplined professional with demonstrated financial, analytical, presentation, and communication skills and will appeal to those who enjoy a “player coach role” in a smaller setting but tasked with managing a significant portfolio of initiatives.  

Primary responsibilities are business strategy, commercial strategy and arrangements, business analytics and insight, optimizing the balance sheet and providing strategic oversight and counsel on the risk and rewards of business operations and proposed business initiatives and strategies.


Key Accountabilities

  • Frequent communication with the CEO, Board and other stakeholders, updating on business results, initiatives and strategies, preparation for board meetings and other presentations
  • Lead the CEO, Board, senior team and other stakeholders through the development, financial and business analysis, enterprise risk evaluation, communication and progression of business initiatives and opportunities
  • Provide and oversee complex analyses, scenario modeling, cost benefit analysis and risk/reward analysis for current and proposed business initiatives and business strategies
  • Ensure the accuracy of all information and data in financial statements & reports and communications
  • Ensures the successful integration of new business into existing operations from the start of the process until new reporting arrangements have been finalized and working relationships established
  • Define, implement and monitor performance indicators and execution factors that monitors organization and business performance
  • Develop relationships and partnerships with senior management to establish and implement strategic plans



The successful candidate will have the following:


  • Degree in Commerce (or MBA)
  • CPA, CFA


  • Strategic leader with a minimum of 15 years’ experience within the energy industry (producer or midstream) with a proven track record of working with projects of a significant magnitude
  • Extensive experience directing the economic and commercial valuation process and risk management process for business projects. Thorough understanding and working knowledge of advanced decision review and analysis techniques pertaining to large capital projects
  • Experienced track record of working with external auditors and other external advisors
  • Strong business and commercial experience with multiple commodities – crude, natural gas, liquids, other petroleum products
  • Strong business knowledge of crude marketing and hedging programs and well versed in financial tools and instruments such as hedging
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with an ability to set the highest standards for honesty, integrity, and work ethic both for themselves and for those around them
  • Highly skilled at gathering, analysis and interpretation of complex financial date and results
  • Strong financial analysis capabilities including balance sheet analysis and comparative decision analysis
