Job Title: Vice President, Digital Services

Reports to: Chief Financial Officer

Direct Reports: 5-7

Indirect Reports: 18-20

Location: Calgary, Alberta



Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Vice President, Digital Services (VP, Digital Services) will lead the implementation and execution of the organization’s digital transformation roadmap. The roadmap lays the groundwork for the IT team to transform the digital environment at Matrix, creating an employee experience where day to day tasks are straightforward and employees are empowered to leverage technology and data to deliver innovative approaches to solving client challenges. While overseeing the execution of this ambitious plan, the VP Digital Services will also seek visibility into and relationships across the organization’s service delivery infrastructure. This insight will be used to influence a long-term vision that creates engaging experiences for our customers and employees, solving challenging business and technical issues with new digital strategies.

Key Accountabilities

The position will include the following responsibilities:


  • Create an encouraging and successful environment in which the IT team can gain confidence through accomplishment and wins
  • Fill key vacancies within the IT team
  • Provide leadership, guidance and mentorship to the IT team broadly and to direct reports who include the Director, IT Project Services, IT Operations Manager, Development Manager, Customer Success Manager and IT Business Partners
  • Be recognized within the organization as a key business leader responsible for providing innovative solutions and presenting business opportunities to increase revenue

IT Operations:

  • Create an organization-wide view on data planning, management and systems integration
  • Bring a deep understanding of and modern perspective on infrastructure and platform technologies and their architecture in an enterprise environment
  • Guide the team in implementing and maintaining best practices to ensure availability, integrity and confidentiality of digital services
  • Ensure a customer-focused approach with a keen eye on enhancing operations, providing customer value and maintaining SLAs for technology across the business
  • Lead sound decision making through understanding technology trends, making recommendations on buy versus build decisions, pragmatic risk management and oversight of budgeting and cost management

Customer Success:

  • Create a team culture that thrives on providing excellent customer service and lives the values of being responsive, client-centric and gracious in dealing with business users
  • Drive perpetual improvement by embedding feedback mechanisms and performance metrics in support activities
  • Ensure the seamless roll-out and lifecycle management of customer IT assets including technology, mobility and business-line programs

Business Partnering:

  • Deploy business partners to deeply understand how Matrix operates: its goals, objectives and priorities, the challenges it faces and the opportunities it has to develop
  • Understand and lead the prioritization of the organization’s strategic priorities, business needs and broader technology context
  • Create a culture of continuous and transparent communication within the team and with the organization all employees should understand the work of the team and the value it is creating for the business

Team Development:

  • Bring experience implementing and managing DevOps (development and operations)
  • Guide the team to deliver on their mandate to make applications consistent, performant and reliable
  • Foster the ability of the team to work with internal and external customers for product feedback, solution iterations and continuous feedback on enhancement opportunities
  • Lead the team to deliver value early and often with iterative solutions development and deployment

  • Develop a thorough understanding of the organization and the work we do to better understand the needs of internal and external stakeholders
  • Develop and implement a governance framework to align IT with business strategy, provide cost effective and efficient IT services, and effectively manage risk
  • Provide inspiration and establish a collaborative team environment which encourages continuous improvement and a level of excellence. Support recruitment efforts for current vacancies and future growth.
  • Be an advocate for innovation, leveraging data and technology in how we deliver value to our clients and conduct our day to day work. Look for opportunities to leverage our existing data to create a new business segment or revenue stream



The successful candidate will have the following:


  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, business or another relevant field


  • 10+ years technology solutions experience
  • Experience working with a senior leadership team in developing strategy, influencing business process and change management
  • Experience in leading a group of technology professionals with an ability to motivate and manage teams
  • Hands on experience leading transformative digital change including cloud-based solutions
  • Experience in a complex multi-business line organization would be considered an asset
