THE OPPORTUNITY

Job Title: Vice President and General Manager of Sales, Sobeys

Department: National Operations

Reports to: Vice President of Retail Sales

Direct Reports: None

Location: Mississauga, Ontario

 

THE MANDATE

Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Retail Sales you will be a champion and advocate for MLF and customer(s).  As a leader of one of our Customer Business Team’s, you will be part of the commercial leadership team and will be responsible for focus and a sense of commitment with our customers. You will foster an environment of end to end customer relationship management and enable more visibility and accountability to business details and results. You will lead the strategy, execution and corporate initiatives of all sales related activities for the customer. You are a born leader and a natural at building strong relationships with all levels in the organization.  You believe the best way to get results from your team is through coaching and mentorship.  As a CBT Leader you will be responsible for results based on a ‘Balanced Scorecard’ which includes Financial (gross margin, trade spend, SG&A), Customer Service (fill rates and customer satisfaction), Operational Effectiveness (internal process efficiency and effectiveness) and Employee (employee engagement) measures.

Key Accountabilities

  • Gain Customer alignment with shared operating principles and milestones
  • Develop comprehensive annual and long-term Customer Account Plans (CAP) & strategies
  • Align Customer Business Team’s and multifunction colleagues to account priorities and ongoing deliverables
  • Customize and deploy national trade merchandising programs and tools for account specific ROI
  • Deliver the Sobeys P&L, including volume, profit and SGA objectives
  • Build and implement a Private Label plan that balances profit expectations of branded product
  • Maintain business partnerships with Customer contacts as defined in the CAP Relationship Plan
  • Implement, maintain and report on the Balanced Scorecard KPIs for the account
  • Conduct talent reviews, career development plans and business rhythms for coaching and mentorship
  • Influence through action, facilitation and participation to measure and improve the effectiveness of organizational systems, processes and tools
  • Enable staff to effectively manage gaps between CAP plans and total Customer targets.
  • Mitigate risk to plans between Customer accounts and prioritize promotional calendars

 

CANDIDATE PROFILE

The successful candidate will have the following:

Education

  • University degree required, MBA or Post graduate degree is an asset

Experience

  • A demonstrated track record of customer focus sales growth
  • 10+ years of commercial business experience with a proven ability to manage the full scope of business

Competencies and Attributes

  • Ability to clearly express ideas and concepts to ensure an executable plan is in place
  • Self-starter with a strong bias for action and follow through
  • A Sales and Marketing leader with selling, strategic sales planning and performance management expertise
  • Proven ability to lead, influence and work effectively in a matrix structure that includes Sales, Marketing, Supply Chain, Customer Service and Finance.
  • Strong, proven ability to collaborate with and influence cross-functional providers (Logistics, Manufacturing, Finance, HR, IT) through strong interpersonal skills, persuasion and situational leadership
  • Proven track record of setting very clear and precise business goals and objectives for both the team as a whole and each individual team member
  • A seasoned and successful leader with a history of developing and mentoring people; strong situational leadership style and ability to maintain role model acknowledgement of the Maple Leaf values
  • Holds excellent industry contacts and relationships
  • Strong commercial sense and industry knowledge
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to influence at multiple levels within in organization
