Job Title:Senior Manager, Corporate Shared Services
Reports to:Corporate Controller
Direct Reports:Corporate Services Employee Security, Compliance, Payroll, AR, AP, HR Admin
Location:Calgary, AB




To support the current business transformation initiative as well as the growth of the organization, this newly created role will provide operational accounting and change management expertise and ensure the alignment and integration of Corporate Shared Services accounting, payroll and reporting processes. Reporting to the Corporate Controller, the Senior Manager, Corporate Services will be a trusted business advisor to the General Managers, Corporate Functional Leads (HR, Risk), Corporate Controller, Business Unit Controllers, ensuring finance accountability and commitment to consistent high level of internal customer service.


  • Develop a competent, high performance shared services team
  • Apply leadership and management best practices to create and maintain a positive, collaborative team-based culture
  • Develop a dashboard of key metrics to assess shared services performance

Strategy/Change Management

  • Working closely with the management team to help define the financial objectives and strategies for the company and plan, manage, and carry out a course of action necessary to support growth initiatives
  • Leading through organizational change in a timely, efficient, and sensitive manner
  • Responsible for designing and delivering the organizations shared services vision
  • Review and establish financial policies to support corporate best practices
  • Participate in development of corporate scorecards and forecasts
  • Ensure effective systems and processes are in place to enable employees to optimize their financial contributions and performance
  • Oversee financial analysis, proformas, and strategic opportunity assessments
  • Actively lead change with innovative solutions for enhancing services contributing to better business operations and organizational growth


  • Leading and supporting the full-cycle accounting process including for A/P, A/R, Payroll, G/L entries, and chart of accounts, bank transfers, supervision and approvals, coding invoices, and journal entries
  • Providing advice on financial viability and cost-benefit analysis on shared services to the management team
  • Understanding the levers and drivers for revenue, operating expenses, and profitability in relation to the shared service center
  • Ensuring applicable corporate reporting requirements, expectations and timelines are agreed upon and met
  • Playing a key role in helping to progress finance in transformation initiatives
  • Supporting key finance business and operational initiatives
  • Establish cost-saving initiatives, create and implement revenue and cost control procedures
  • Prepare monthly and annual financial statements including the Annual Report, and compliance reporting to stakeholders
  • Develop and enhance internal controls, cash management strategies, forecasts, and budgets

Day to day operations

  • High quality, accurate transactional services support work while meeting established Service Level Agreements
  • Directly responsible for processing Executive payroll
  • Ensuring payroll accuracy and processing by ensuring regulatory compliance on matters related to pay processing, taxation, benefits and pensions ( provide backup to Payroll Supervisor when needed)
  • Oversee the HR Administration team to ensure new employee onboarding and system set up
  • Lead the documentation of key processes and standard operating procedures
  • Review pertinent policies with new employees
  • Deliver higher quality and better value services



Success in the first year will be determined by the candidate’s ability to:

  • Contribute to the design of process and structure for the centralized shared services throughout the organization
  • Play a key role in designing and supporting the business transformation of shared services model within a successful national and global organization
  • Build trust, gain buy-in and credibility with the General Manager’s and other business unit leaders for the transformation
  • Effectively build and lead the team to execute and manage the shared services model



The successful candidate will have the following:


  • University degree preferably in finance or accounting with some business administration experience
  • Professional designation in CPA, CA
  • MBA preferred


  • Minimum 10 years progressive experience in financial, administrative, payroll positions
  • Knowledge of financial reporting standards and related transactional processes (AR, AP, credit, vendor approvals, contractor requirements etc.)
  • In-depth understanding of payroll, governance and related compliance requirements
  • Understanding and experience within a Shared Services model servicing a mid to large sized company with multiple locations and jurisdictions
  • Ability to analyze information and demonstrate deep thinking
  • Advanced proficiency in ERP and Microsoft products
