The division produces a wide range of cheese products sold to virtually all segments of the food industry in the US, ranging from cheese products sold as ingredients to other food manufacturers, to high-end specialty cheeses that are branded and sold at the retail level. In the US, Saputo is one of the leading manufacturers of mozzarella cheese sold through all channels of distribution, including quick service restaurants, as well as the food service sector.
The Senior Vice President Human Resources will report directly to the President and COO of SCUSA and will be part of a seven-person leadership team overseeing this $2.5 billion profit centre. The Senior Vice President Human Resources for SCUSA will have responsibility for all facets of HR strategy development for the business unit, as well as functional oversight over a multifaceted team in HR with responsibility over a multitude of functions ranging from Talent Management to Compensation as well as Labour Relations. The current HR team for SCUSA is somewhat decentralized, with HR generalist operating on a regional basis, as well as a corporate staff overseeing a variety of functions for the overall business unit.
SCUSA has grown significantly over the years with much of its growth fuelled by acquisitions. The HR function has played a significant role in integrating newly acquired regional organizations within the Saputo culture and business model. The HR function continues to act as a business partner to the senior management team, providing advice and guidance in all areas of HR management, as well as contributing to the overall strategy of this sizeable business unit in the US.
The ideal candidate will have gained his/her experience within a significant manufacturing organization that is complex, national in scope, and ideally within the CPG space. Candidates must bring a track record of having managed the Human Resources function during periods of change and growth, as well as experience in terms of integrating acquisitions and leading the development of best practices. From a functional standpoint, candidates will ideally possess a generalist HR background, which will include experience in a wide range of areas including various aspects of Organizational Development as well as the more tactical elements of Labour Relations. A track record of having progressed up through an organization that is a quasi-matrix would represent an asset.
While we seek a top-flight HR professional with leading edge skills in the HR function, the ideal candidate profile will include solid experience in dealing with Operations (manufacturing), Supply Chain and Sales, functions that are critical to SCUSA’s success. Candidates should point to a track record of having partnered and provided added value to these functional areas throughout their career in HR management.
The Saputo culture is characterized by teamwork, collaboration, and a single-minded focus on performance. Candidates must demonstrate solid leadership skills and a track record of having led and developed a multi-functional HR team. The ideal candidate, while being assertive and focussed on change, must also demonstrate a high degree of collaboration, teamwork and an ability to “get things done through others” by their strong presence and influencing skills. Candidates must possess the right balance between strategic leadership and technical implementation, as well as an approach to the HR function which is based on rigour, providing value to the business, as well as helping shape the culture for continued growth. Finally, candidates must demonstrate a solid level of mobility and clearly possess the leadership and potential to develop further and assume positions of greater responsibility in the medium term.
