President and Chief Operating Officer, Dairy Foods Division, Saputo Inc.


The Dairy Foods Division (DFD)of Saputo Inc. is a market leader in its segment of consumer dairy products. This business unit is headquartered in Dallas, Texas, and operates independently from its sister business unit, Saputo Cheese USA, headquartered in Chicago. The company operates a network of 11 manufacturing sites spread throughout various parts of the U.S., which in turn employ some 2,300 people, many of who are unionized. A total staff of close to 200 people comprise various levels of management, professional and support staff.



The position of President and Chief Operating Officer of the Dairy Foods Division (DFD) reports to the President and Chief Operating Officer of Saputo Inc. The position is one of five Divisional Presidents reporting to the corporate President & COO, forming an integral part of the Company’s executive committee and thereby participating in developing the overall strategy of the corporation as well as having direct responsibility for the full P&L within DFD. The President of DFD will have direct line responsibility over all functional areas of the Division, ranging from Sales and Marketing to Finance, Human Resources and all facets of Operations including R & D. The position will have ultimate responsibility for developing the growth strategy for the Division, meeting all targets for revenue and profit growth, as well as further developing the management team and ensuring the on-going development of the corporate culture within the context of the overall Saputo organization and its specific values.

Some of the immediate objectives for this role include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Strategy Development: The strategy for the Division will continue to focus on growing top line revenues and market share, all while focussing on bottom line performance. Initiatives should be undertaken in new segments that promise future growth such as plant-based beverages. The President, backed by the Marketing and R&D teams will have to develop a coherent strategy in order to leverage current capabilities to truly exploit this growing market segment as well as others. Concurrent with this, the President must play a leadership role in driving innovative sales strategies in all channels of distribution, as well as proactively participate in partnering with the Division’s key accounts.
  • Innovation: The President of the Division must provide the leadership to drive innovation and research, which is already a proven strength of the Division. A significant innovation centre located in Dallas is staffed with top-flight professionals in research and product development. The President and his/her management team must provide the strategic leadership to ensure that the innovation centre is focussed on the right priorities that will ultimately result in profitable growth.
  • Network optimization: Though the current network of eleven manufacturing facilities is well operated and quite efficient from a cost standpoint, there is nevertheless a need to further develop a strategy aimed at optimizing manufacturing and supply chain operations more rigorously and in fact “doing more with less”. Although not an immediate priority, greater analysis should be carried out in terms of developing further opportunities for synergy with the Saputo sister division SCUSA in areas of supply chain and perhaps even sales.



The ideal candidate for this position will possess a highly relevant background in various segments of consumer-packaged goods, with particular emphasis on food service. Candidates must bring at least 20 years of relevant experience gained within organizations that are seen as being leading-edge within the food segment, national in scope, and recognized for their discipline and rigour in operations, marketing, as well as sales. Candidates will have gained their experience in organizations recognized for their innovation and excellence in customer service and product development, as well as a track record of profitable growth and category leadership.

From a functional standpoint, we seek candidates who bring a solid track record in managing and growing a full-fledged profit centre of considerable scale and complexity, with direct responsibility over all functional areas including Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Sales and Marketing, as well as Finance and HR. Complementing this experience, candidates will have progressed up through the ranks of senior sales and marketing management with Tier One organizations. The ideal candidate will be experienced in dealing with multiple channels of distribution, ranging from quick service restaurants, independent distributors, as well as grocery retail. This person must in fact bring a solid track record of dealing with the senior levels of client organizations that are national in scope within all of the aforementioned distribution channels.

From a personal standpoint, candidates must bring a high degree of passion, dedication, a process driven mindset, as well as a solid analytical approach to managing a complex manufacturing business. This position requires an outstanding leader who has proven to be an effective mentor and coach within the context of a large multi disciplinary management team. The President must be a strong team player who demonstrates a high sense of collaboration and teamwork. Ideal candidates will also possess above average emotional intelligence and a well managed ego. This position will be part of the Saputo Inc. executive leadership team and will therefore be expected to contribute to the evolution of the organization as a whole. Candidates must demonstrate an open mindset within the context of an organization that is growing on a global basis. Successfully working and collaborating with a peer group of senior executives will be mandatory, and candidates should be upwardly mobile and clearly demonstrate potential to move up to positions of greater responsibility within Saputo Inc.
