THE OPPORTUNITY

Job Title:Manager, Claims – Auto & Casualty
Reports to:Vice President, Claims
Direct Reports:16; Auto Claims Supervisor, Telephone/Clerical Claims Supervisor
Supervisors:2 (one auto, one casualty – currently vacant)
Location:Edmonton, AB

 

THE MANDATE

The Manager, Claims – Auto & Casualty will provide leadership and guidance to employees within the Auto/Casualty Claims Department as well as cultivating and maintaining relationships with third party service providers, including Independent Adjusters. The Claims Manager supports the strategic direction of the Company, by executing departmental initiatives that align with corporate strategy.   The Manager, Claims – Auto & Casualty will collaborate with colleagues and other stakeholders to usher in a new era for the organization by ensuring compliance with auto reform and alignment with provincial regulations. The successful incumbent will act as a champion for Peace Hill’s internal culture and will uphold the values of the organization in their day to day leadership.

 

Key Accountabilities

Operational Leadership

  • Utilize a breadth of expertise in auto and casualty claims to ensure the department is effectively handling a wide variety of claims of varying complexity;
  • Ongoing dedication to continuous improvement and commitment to excellence with respect to file audits and summary reports;
  • Demonstrate dedication to upholding company service standards for the team with an emphasis on compliance and claims;
  • Demonstrate excellence and expertise overseeing large losses and provide instructions to senior staff as it relates to examinations and mediations;
  • Draw upon an ongoing commitment to exceptional customer service when responding to client enquiries with respect to claims decisions; and
  • Execute analytical thinking through the development of various reports, analysis, and thoughtful recommendations to the team and clients.

People Leadership

  • Demonstrate leadership and technical expertise allowing for the team to lean on the Manager, Claims – Auto & Casualty as a subject matter expert on a wide variety of claim matters;
  • Encourage employee development and growth through guidance and mentorship;
  • Utilize strong interpersonal and communication skills to uphold strong relationships with Brokers and other stakeholders;
  • Ensure the team is well structured and best positioned to achieve the short- and long-term objectives for the business; and
  • Instill confidence in the team and the Brokers they interact with.

FIRST YEAR DELIVERABLES / MEASURES OF SUCCESS

Success in the first year will be determined by the candidate’s ability to:

  • Demonstrate technical expertise to the team and elevate the performance of the entire auto and casualty department;
  • Successfully lead the organization through the auto reform process and develop innovative solutions to maintain and attract clientele; and
  • Evaluate the operating structure of the team and progress individual colleague development with an emphasis on effectiveness and efficiency.

 

CANDIDATE PROFILE

The successful candidate will have the following:

Education

  • Relevant post-secondary education; and/or
  • Chartered Insurance Professional (“CIP”) or Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional (“FCIP”) designation.

Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in the insurance industry;
  • Minimum of 5 years’ management experience leading a diverse team;
  • Advance understanding and knowledge related to policy, wordings, and relevant legislation; and
  • Demonstrated expertise in insurance, specifically Auto, Section B, and Casualty Claims.
