Job Title: Geologist/ Senior Geologist

Reports to: Vice President

Location: Calgary, AB



The Senior Geologist/ Geologist will join the Montney asset team and be responsible for all geological aspects within their exploration and development area.  The position offers drilling and technical opportunities across a range of geographical areas and stratigraphic intervals hosting oil, liquids-rich gas and dry gas.

This role requires someone who possesses an exploitation skillset paired with an exploration mindset.

Key Accountabilities

Work with a team of comprised of a geophysicist and exploitation, drilling, completions & production engineers as well as both mineral and surface land personnel to:

  • Advance the efficient development of our Montney play as well as other unconventional and conventional assets in British Columbia
  • Characterize and map plays across and around the company’s land base
  • Make technically supported recommendations for the drilling of wells in pool extension, new areas and infill scenarios
  • Advance drilling recommendations through the approvals process to the drilling stage and oversee the drilling operations of those programs from our Calgary office, keep the team and management apprised of the progress of drilling operations
  • Provide geological and strategic input on opportunities to enhance the value of our acreage such as land sales and postings, acquisitions and divestitures
  • Provide technical support in building and executing capital budget programs
  • Evaluate and stay apprised of relevant analogue pools and competitor activity
  • Present technical work and recommendations to senior management for approvals and for knowledge sharing
  • Manage land expiries and continuations

Success in the first year will be determined by the candidate’s ability to:

  • Integrate and work collaboratively with the geoscience team and the multi-disciplinary team as a whole
  • Demonstrate ability to be inquisitive and take initiative to generate ideas
  • Support and drive forward activities for new drilling locations
  • Take initiative to identify new target zones



The successful candidate will have the following:


  • Bachelor of Science (Geology) degree combined with 7 to 15 years geological experience in the oil and gas industry
  • APEGA certification or working towards


  • Direct experience working in the Montney is preferred, Duvernay and/or Deep basin unconventionals would also be an asset
  • Career focused on developing tight gas and oil reservoirs
  • Experience in unconventional reservoir characterization
  • Experience in petrophysics, sedimentology, stratigraphy, structural geology, core and facies analysis, geomechanics, rock-fluid interaction, and seismic integration will all be considered assets in this role
  • Experience planning and executing horizontal multi-well pads: prospect generation, picking drilling locations, field development and planning, wellbore design and optimal lateral placement
  • An understanding of hydraulic fracturing concepts, application and impact on the reservoir
  • Software experience: Accumap, Petra, Spotfire, Verdazo (Visage)
