Fuel Director

THE OPPORTUNITY

Job Title:Fuel Director
Location:Calgary, AB

 

THE MANDATE

Reporting to the Vice-President, the Fuel Director will be responsible for executing and analyzing requests for fuel proposals, negotiating contracts and vendor agreements, leading and assisting projects and initiatives within the Fuel operations team, and implementing the fuel pricing and distribution strategy. The Fuel Director will also be a “hands on” leader, providing guidance to fuel teams within the North American divisions and actively contributing to the growth and development of direct reports.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Create and implement retail fuel pricing strategies within each micro-market
  • Optimize gasoline inventories related to the company’s liquidity and profitability
  • Coach and develop team members using a supportive and collaborative approach
  • Plan, execute and direct work in complex projects or programs that require the development and application of unique approaches
  • Be involved in negotiating fuel supply, prices, and contracts
  • Interpret tenders and product demand and generate procurement strategies
  • Maintain business relationships with partners and fuel suppliers/carriers
  • Effectively manage all vendor supply agreements
  • Coordinate and perform the creation and analysis of fuel-related RFP
  • Be an ambassador for best practices within the organization
  • Collaborate closely with the Operations Team within the Business Unit, The Fuel teams for North America, Fuel accounting, Marketing, and IT

Success in the first year will be determined by the candidate’s ability to:

  • Effectively integrate into a growth focused organization, establishing collaborative and trusted relationships with subordinates, peers, senior leadership, and internal and external stakeholder groups
  • Understand the organization’s business model, be actively engaged and participating in all aspects of the business including day to day operations, business strategy and growth objectives
  • Implement a strategic fuel pricing and distribution strategy for retail stores across the region ensuring that financial metrics and targets are met
  • Be a supportive leader who takes an active role in providing guidance, training, and mentorship to direct reports

CANDIDATE PROFILE

The successful candidate will have the following:

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Mathematics, or related field

Experience

  • 3-5 years of experience in fuel supply, contract negotiation, relationship management, retail fuel pricing, fuel distribution and/or fuel analysis with a focus on fuel supply
  • Experience in personnel management, operations management, and project management
  • Previous M&A experience would be an asset

  • A “working manager” who is comfortable rolling up their sleeves
  • Excellent knowledge of the Fuel industry including all related regulations
  • Proven knowledge of the retail industry and associated factors including pricing, customer acquisition, and distribution of product
  • Excellent strategic planning skills and experience with the creation of tactical initiatives
  • Must be well organized with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities and deadlines
  • A strong commitment to teamwork and collaboration within the workplace
  • The ability to access and analyze multiple data entries and work through teams within a decentralized structure
  • Strong ability in building open and collaborative working relationships and instilling a climate of trust
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills
