Executive Director | Alberta Business Family Institute

The Organization

The Alberta Business Family Institute (ABFI) was conceived by the collaborative efforts of a group of Alberta business families, members of the Alberta School of Business at the University of Alberta, and founders of the Business Families Foundation. Built on the principle that family enterprise is at the heart of the economy, the ABFI offers innovative programs and services to business families. The Institute is committed to providing specific tools, guidance, and knowledge in multiple areas, including succession and estate planning, corporate governance, leadership development, and conflict resolution.

ABFI is closely affiliated with the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Family Enterprise (CEFE), which is part of the University of Alberta’s School of Business. The Centre for Entrepreneurship & Family Enterprise is a leading research centre that helps scholars, students, and family business practitioners — owners, employees, and advisors — understand how cultural processes in family enterprises influence strategic objectives, and the important role that family businesses and entrepreneurs have in our communities and overall economic well-being. CEFE resources help guide family businesses so that they can achieve more and succeed in their industry.

ABFI is committed to an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workforce. We welcome applications from all qualified persons. We encourage women; First Nations, Métis and Inuit persons; members of visible minority groups; persons with disabilities; persons of any sexual orientation or gender identity and expression; and all those who may contribute to the further diversification of ideas to apply.
