Job Title:Director, Human Resources
Reports to:OKT Partners
Direct Reports:Human Resource Partner
Location:Toronto, ON




We are partnering with OKT in order to assist them in their search for their Director, Human Resources. This newly created role will be an integral part of the management and operations of the firm. As a member of the management team, the ideal candidate will own the full Human Resources function.

This is an incredible opportunity to not only own the operations but create process, drive efficiencies and support an incredible team of brilliant lawyers. The successful candidate will be passionate and committed to the firm and the Indigenous nations they serve. They will become an advocate and the driving force behind the continued growth of OKT’s human resource strategies and programs.



The ideal candidate will bring their service driven approach, strong community commitment and desire to build internal culture to this role. As an experienced Human Resources Professional you will have the opportunity to showcase your knowledge and be the subject matter expert for the team.


  • Develop and establish programs and policies that support the firm’s objectives, including the preparation of recommendations where changes may be needed, and leading initiatives and projects to implement those recommendations;
  • Providing counsel and coaching to lawyers and staff about the implementation and application of firm policies;
  • Providing counsel and coaching to lawyers and staff on performance management and relationship management, including developing action plans or progressive disciplinary strategies;
  • Working with associate lawyers on professional development, career development and business development;
  • Responding to employee relation issues proactively and recommending solutions;
  • Working with Director of Finance and Operations and Management Committee to prepare and monitor annual HR budget;
  • Leading recruitment initiatives, campus recruitment and overseeing hiring practices;
  • Managing employee training, orientation, etc.



  • Human Resources Designation or similar recognized designation.
  • 7 – 10 years’ experience within Human Resources along with leadership experience.
  • Experience working in a service driven culture.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced and highly stressful environment.
  • Background / education or training in law or as a lawyer is an asset.
  • Preference for Indigenous candidates with relevant professional experience.
