Job Title: Director, Human Resources / Health, Safety & Environment (Director, HR / H&S)

Reports to: Vice President, Operations

Direct Reports: 6 (Human Resources Manager, 2 HSE Managers, Human Resources Advisor, 2 Payroll Administrators)

Location: Langley, BC



This position is responsible for strategic leadership in planning, developing, implementing, promoting and evaluating the effectiveness of Iconix and Centrix’s HR strategies, procedures and initiatives, overseeing HR / HS&E operations in Canada and the US, and working closely with the Senior Leadership Team in order to implement the corporate strategic plans.

This position is also responsible for delivering Total Rewards Solutions across the Company in both Canada and the USA.

Overall, the goal of the Director, HR / HS&E is to develop a strategy that results in better recruitment, selection, increased employee engagement, better employee performance and alignment to company strategy. This position is responsible for health and safety, reducing or eliminating risk, conducting gap analysis, and ensuring legal compliance.



The Director, HR / H&S responsibilities include the following:

  • Partners with management to understand the long-term corporate objectives, identifying areas of opportunity and implementing Human Resource and Compensation and Benefit programs needed to meet the short and longer-term growth strategies, and providing advice and support to senior management on all matters relating to human resources issues;
  • Implements best-practice initiatives for core human resources policies and programs, including succession and career planning, performance appraisals, recruitment, on-boarding, and employee retention;
  • Ensure alignment of total rewards with the company’s goals and objectives;
  • Provides strategic and technical support in order to develop and implement health and safety procedures and strategies that support operational activities, as well as ensuring compliance with all legal and organizational safety standards;
  • Lead organizational change management initiatives;
  • Directs and supervises staff, participates in recruitment, selection, orientation, training and evaluation of employees; maintain a safe, secure, and legal work environment; develop personal growth opportunities; and
  • Oversee Canadian and US payroll function.



Success will be determined by the candidate’s ability to:

  • Create and implement a talent management strategy and provide a return on investment by improving recruitment and selection, reducing turnover, improving employee engagement, learning and development, and facilitating succession planning;
  • Develop and maintain an employee-oriented culture that emphasizes quality, continuous improvement, and high performance;
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the department, ensuring compliance, high quality service, and consistency of practice while being equitable and fair;
  • Support disability management, workplace absenteeism, workplace wellness, employee and family assistance, and effective return-to-work;
  • Support clients with all matters related to HR including investigations, employee relations, etc.;
  • Lead the organizations through change, specifically due to the upcoming Workday implementation;
  • Ensure compliance with legislative requirements and internal policy, and respond to legal claims as applicable;
  • Evaluate and revise internal processes to reduce cost and increase efficiency; assures timeliness and accuracy of required filings;
  • Successfully conduct employee survey and act upon results in the effort of becoming an employer of choice; and
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with all internal customers.



  • Education, Experience, and Attributes:
    • Bachelor’s degree in related field
    • 7 years’ experience in a senior HR leadership role
