Chief Financial Officer

Based in Calgary and reporting directly to the President, the Chief Financial Officer (“CFO”) will provide strategic and hands-on leadership. The CFO will be responsible for all financial planning, compliance, risk management, insurance, and finance functions including budgeting, inventory, cost accounting, supplier contracts, and forecasting.

This dynamic role will also provide objective advice and analysis, as well as strategic direction and counsel on a number of complex business operations and will support continued growth. As a key member of the management group, the CFO must be a passionate advocate for the business and help keep the organization focused on executing key priorities.



The position will include the following responsibilities:

  • Drive the formulation of the company’s short – and long-term financial goals and objectives and the strategy and action initiatives toward achievement
  • Participate in key business decisions as a member of the management team
  • Supervise accounting, payroll and related administrative staff.  Hire, lead, evaluate, integrate and support change management and process improvements
  • Work closely with other members of the management team providing them with relevant historical and forward-looking financial and statistical analysis and information
  • Develop, recommend, and implement a technology strategy and policy
  • Establish and maintain a robust financial forecasting model appropriate for a growing and dynamic organization
  • Establish the company’s system of budgetary control; provide the interpretation of financial results against planned performance
  • Support the development and negotiation of key supplier, client contracts and lenders through providing financial analysis and metrics
  • Establish and maintain systems to manage inventory costs and quantities to support the sales and manufacturing process and drive efficiencies in the organization
  • Ensure the company complies with all legal and regulatory requirements, and record keeping meets the requirements of auditors and government agencies
  • Analyze current and potential business relationships and ventures



Success in the first year will be determined by the Chief Financial Officer’s ability to:

  • Build trust with key leaders in the organization to ensure open lines of communication
  • Create an accounting and finance reputation that is proactive versus reactive and anticipates the needs of business leaders
  • Ensure delivery of accurate and timely financial and operational reports enabling others to make better business decisions
  • Demonstrated engagement in the business and driving towards the future success of the organization



The successful candidate will have the following:


  • Bachelor’s degree, ideally in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA, CA)


  • Must have manufacturing or processing experience, familiar with cost accounting, inventory management, pricing, bill of materials and supplier contracts
  • Knowledge of SAP products and experience overseeing an IT function
  • Experienced at being a business partner, driving strategy while working in a “doer” role
