THE ORGANIZATION
WZR Development ULC is a privately owned, petroleum operating company, active in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq exploring for, developing, and producing crude oil and natural gas. The group’s technical and administrative offices are located in Calgary, Alberta.
WZR holds an 80% working interest in the Kurdamir Production Sharing Contract (“PSC”) and a 40% working interest in the Garmian PSC with the Kurdistan Regional Government in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. At the end of Q1 2021 the Garmian Development Area was producing over 30,000 barrels of light oil per day from the Sarqala oilfield. Independently audited resource reports estimate the blocks contain prospective resources of 1.2 billion barrels of oil equivalent.

THE OPPORTUNITY
Job Title: Senior Advisor, Compensation & Benefits
Reports to: Vice President, Human Resources
Location: Calgary, AB

THE MANDATE
Reporting to the Vice President, Human Resources, the Senior Advisor, Compensation and Benefits will work with members of the human resources team to provide a comprehensive and integrated human resources function that enables the business and drives corporate success.
The position will play a key role in developing and maintaining the strategies, processes, and framework necessary to deliver a robust and effective compensation and benefits system that maximizes individual and company performance while allowing WZR Development ULC to attract and retain the talent required to achieve company objectives.

Key Accountabilities:
Compensation:
• Ensure the compensation strategy is fully executed
• Analyze and interpret salary data and make recommendations on compensation for new hires and promotions
• Provide compensation analysis and recommendations for employees and contractors
• Build and maintain a compensation calendar that is aligned with key organizational requirements such as budget and performance management process
• Lead in the development of a corporate compensation framework, such as salary structure with job levels, bonus plans, and provide continuous analysis for improvement
• Oversee the executive compensation structure ensuring total rewards incorporate all components of individual and company performance and packages are competitive with peers in the marketplace
• Coordinate the annual compensation review program, from costs modelling scenarios to payroll processing and communications
• Provide accurate and timely analysis and recommendations to assist in making informed compensation decisions
• Actively participate in the planning and budgeting of compensation and total rewards programs

Benefits:
• Provide benefits expertise and recommendations to ensure the benefits program is cost-effective and meets the unique needs of the company
• Build a benefits educational program to ensure all employees fully understand
• Manage the benefits provider, broker services to ensure effective, cost-efficient delivery of services to the company and employees
• Research and analyze the program offerings of current benefits providers both domestic and international
• Provide analysis and market data to support recommendations for potential benefits providers and work with brokers to ensure benefit offerings remain competitive
• Administer the annual process for employee health and wellness spending accounts

Other:
• Monitor industry trends associated with total rewards and advise on optimization of company programs
• Research and participate in market surveys within all relevant markets, conduct gap analyses based on market data and provide recommendations that are in alignment with findings
• Learn the new HRIS system (HUMI) and effectively utilize to support work functions related to compensation, benefits, and other total rewards purposes
• Support other total rewards projects, employee and consultant hiring processes and initiatives as required to support the company’s business plans and growth strategies

FIRST YEAR DELIVERABLES / MEASURES OF SUCCESS
Success in the first year will be determined by the candidate’s ability to:
• Effectively integrate into a growth focused company, establishing collaborative and trusted relationships with subordinates, peers, senior leadership, and internal and external stakeholder groups
• Collaborate with all departments to determine merit, promotion and adjustment budgets and incentive forecasting. Use market data to build a case for base salary spending
• Review external market for budgeted salary increases and salary range adjustments, combined with salary survey data. Analyze Mercer data and provide salary increase budget information to help determine adjustment of salary ranges, planned merit/annual increase budgets and bonus spending
• Review and refresh the overall corporate compensation strategy and framework. Update job descriptions and salary bands based on market analysis, including geographic or function specific ranges for office and field positions

CANDIDATE PROFILE
The successful candidate will have the following:

Education
• Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Human Resources, Business, Finance, or related field
• CPHR designation or CCP certification is considered a strong asset

Experience
• Minimum of five years’ experience in human resources with a specific focus on compensation and benefits
• Strong experience administering the salary review process including communications, collecting management input and obtaining leadership approval
• Experience within the oil and gas sector is considered a strong asset
• Experience working in an international setting is considered a strong asset

Competencies and Attributes
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite software
• Ability to provide a consistently high standard of confidentiality, and exercise judgment on sensitive/confidential issues
• Demonstrated credibility by exercising a great deal of professional tact and diplomacy
• Ability to foster and promote a positive, constructive, and productive work environment and culture throughout the organization
